Dutch Heritage Fabric – A Little Piece of Textile History

Dutch Heritage is a beautiful collection of fabrics inspired by the rich textile traditions of the Netherlands, with designs drawing particularly on historic Dutch chintz and floral prints from the 17th and 18th centuries. The collection was created by Dutch textile enthusiasts and designers Petra Prins and Nel Kooiman, who carefully reinterpret these traditional designs for today’s makers.

The story behind these fabrics is particularly fascinating. Chintz, known in the Netherlands as sits, originally came from India and became hugely fashionable in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries. Dutch traders brought these colourful, intricately decorated cottons to Europe, where they became so popular that Dutch manufacturers began producing their own versions and interpretations.

Dutch Heritage captures that wonderful sense of history, with graceful flowers, leaves, birds and other decorative motifs that feel both wonderfully traditional and surprisingly fresh. They are fabrics with character – equally at home in a traditional quilt, a contemporary project, dressmaking, bags or any creative make where you want something a little special.

Width: 45" / 114cm. 100% quilting grade cotton

As always, we make every effort to photograph our fabrics so that the colours are represented as accurately as possible. However, colours can vary slightly from one computer, tablet or phone screen to another, so the fabric you receive may not appear exactly the same as it does on your screen.
